I was always the type of student who loved to show off my school spirit.
At my elementary school, the graduating class had the choice of whether or not to buy sweaters or hoodies to show off their grad year. Inside the numbers, students would sign their names. I wore my hoodie to absolute death when I received it.
But unfortunately, I’ve lost hoodie.
And of course, I stopped wearing it once I graduated and began high school.
In high school, I was the student that partook in every school event. I dressed up whenever I was given the opportunity. When school spirit week came around in 12th grade, I dressed up for each theme and made a friend of mine do it with me.
Unfortunately, I failed to take pictures back then of our efforts.
Looking back, it was so much fun.
It was like Halloween every day of the week for one week.
Now that I’m in university, I still like to show off my school spirit.
I own t-shirts and sweaters that say SFU on them. Of course, I bought them on sale because I’m a sale shopper, but I’ve also bought clothing from the Linguistics Student Union. I have shirts that clearly state “SFU Linguistics” and others that simply display linguistics terminology. One day, I would like to get a tattoo of a wug.
Maybe it’s pride. Maybe it’s all just for fun. Maybe I like the way it looks as a fashion item. Maybe it’s all of the above.
It’s probably, almost definitely, all of the above, if I’m being totally honest.
But I love showing off my school spirit with my clothing.
Do you like wearing school clothing or do you think it’s tacky?
